Where the idea came from

Most financial decisions get made on a single visible number. The salary on a job offer. The asking price on a house. The price of a coffee. Those numbers are real, but they're not complete. The commute, the tax, the nursery bill, the depreciation on the car you need to get there. These change the picture significantly, and they almost never get added up properly.

We found ourselves doing these calculations by hand, on paper, in spreadsheets, for ourselves and for people we knew. The maths isn't complicated. It's just tedious enough that most people never do it, and consequential enough that they probably should.

So we built a set of calculators that do it properly. Put your figures in, get the real number out. That's the whole thing.

Who we are

A small team. We're not a financial services company, a bank, a comparison site, or affiliated with any product we might be tempted to recommend. We don't have anything to sell you. The site runs on display advertising, which means the only way it makes money is if people find it genuinely useful and keep coming back.

All of the calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored. There's no account, no email list, and no tracking of what you calculate. The privacy policy explains the advertising side of things, but the short version is: your numbers are yours.

What we're trying to do

The aim is simple. Give normal people access to the kind of careful financial thinking that usually gets written up in a spreadsheet by someone who enjoys that sort of thing, or that gets charged for by a financial adviser. Not investment advice, not tax planning, not anything that needs a licence. Just the honest arithmetic of everyday decisions, done carefully and explained clearly.

We think most people are capable of making good decisions when they have the right information. These calculators try to provide that.
